Almaden Valley

South San Jose's most scenic neighborhood — mountain views, championship golf, and miles of open space.

Living in Almaden Valley

Almaden Valley occupies a privileged position in South San Jose, wrapped between the Santa Teresa Hills to the east and the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west. This upper-middle-class neighborhood offers residents a rare combination — the peace and beauty of a mountain-adjacent setting with straightforward access to downtown San Jose (roughly 20 minutes via Almaden Expressway) and Silicon Valley's employment centers.

The housing stock here leans toward generously sized single-family homes on larger-than-average lots, many commanding sweeping views over the mountains or the fairways of one of two nearby golf clubs.

What to Love

  • Panoramic mountain views from spacious homes on large lots
  • Two championship golf clubs within the neighborhood
  • Access to thousands of acres of county parkland
  • Among the top-rated public schools in the San Jose Unified School District

People & Lifestyle

Almaden Valley is ideal for buyers who want a private, picturesque setting without feeling disconnected from urban life. The neighborhood is quiet and unhurried, with a strong sense of community and easy access to all the amenities San Jose has to offer.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Local dining is concentrated along Almaden Expressway and near Blossom Hill Road and Highway 85. Legends Pizza is a neighborhood favorite for casual pies and draft beer. Charlie's Cheesecake Works is the go-to for gourmet desserts. Almaden Center offers a Safeway and Ace Hardware for everyday needs, plus the adjacent Country Inn Café for classic American breakfast and lunch. Almaden Via Valiente Plaza adds a CVS, Pomodoro Pizza, and a bubble tea shop. Princeton Plaza on Blossom Hill Road rounds out the options with Korean fried chicken at Bonchon, authentic Chinese at Mandarin House, and specialty grocery at Etminan Market.

Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is Almaden Valley's greatest asset. Boulder Ridge Golf Club features a scenic 18-hole course with a driving range and outdoor patio dining. Almaden Golf and Country Club offers a prestigious 135-acre championship course that has hosted LPGA and Nike Tour events, plus a fitness center, pool, and tennis courts. Almaden Quicksilver County Park covers more than 4,100 acres at the valley's southern edge, with 37 miles of trails for hiking, 30 miles for horseback riding, and nearly 17 miles for cycling. Santa Teresa County Park adds another 1,673 acres with trails, a golf course, and an archery range. Calero Reservoir County Park to the southeast provides 18 miles of trails and water-based recreation including boating and fishing. For serious hikers, the Mount Umunhum Trail climbs to one of the highest peaks in the Santa Cruz Mountains — on clear days, views stretch to San Francisco, Monterey Bay, and the Pacific.
